SUMMARY:Evening Field Meeting at SSSI Guy's Cliffe - Stuart Burley
DESCRIPTION:Guy’s Cliffe outcrop and the recently installed WGCG Information board\n\n\n\nWe will explore the spectacular Guy’s Cliffe exposures of the Helsby Sandstone on the banks of the river Avon\, recently conserved by the Friends of Guys Cliffe volunteers. The Helsby Sandstone\, (formally the Warwick\, or Bromsgrove Sandstone)\, exhibits outstanding examples of cross-bedding giving participants the opportunity to unravel the type and size of the rivers from which these were deposited and search for rhynchosaur fossil remains previously known from here. \n\n\n\nMeet at 6.30pm in the car park in front of Guys Cliffe House. The local volunteer team have kindly provided access to the grounds and they may even entertain you with stories of ghosts and the history of the ruined house which dates from 1751. We examine the sandstone exposures and undertake a short\, 500m\, easy\, circular walk around the grounds on well maintained footpaths.
