SUMMARY:WGCG Summer Social field walk in Leek Wooton
DESCRIPTION:Evening field meeting at Leek Wooton led by Jane Allum\, Stuart Burley\, and Ray Pratt \n\n\n\nMembers and their guests are invited to participate in our summer social event\, centred around the Anchor pub in Leek Wooton. For the physically active we have scheduled a gentle summers evening walk along the Millenium Way footpath on the western side of Leek Wooton golf course to visit\, to Woodloes Quarry. Sedimentological features are now clearly revealed following recent geo-conservation work by WGCG volunteers. The round trip walk to Woodloes Quarry is 2.4km over undulating ground on a well-established footpath. Returning to Leek Wooton we will meet up at the Leek Wooton bus stop\, meeting up with others unable to undertake the earlier walk. Here we can view another exposure of the Helsby sandstone and its sedimentological features. We will then take refreshments in the Anchor pub. Please note that participants will need to pay for their own for food and drinks. Free car parking in Leek Wooton is available by the village hall and at the Anchor Pub. \n\n\n\nThe field trip Itinerary is:17:45 Meet\, registration and HSE at Leek Wooton Golf Club – Groundsman area-free parking. (W3W:///captive.wove.anchorman SP 283 676)  18:00-18:15 Walk to Woodloes Quarry LGS 81 (W3W: ///admire.golden.continues\, SP 276 679)18:15-18:45 Examine and discuss the geology of the quarry faces18:45-19:00 Return to cars and drive to Anchor Pub Car Park19:30 Congregate at Leek Wooton bus stop on Warwick Road for exposure 2.19:45 Head to Anchor pub for food & drinks https://www.anchorleekwootton.co.uk/ \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThese exposures are of the Middle Triassic Helsby Sandstone Formation\, known locally as the Warwick Sandstone\, and nicely supplement the spectacular exposures of the Helsby Sandstone at Guys Cliffe\, revealing complex bedding structures and beautifully preserved calcified fossil root structures.
