Talks are held monthly from September to April.

Doors open at 7.00pm for coffee before a 7.30pm start at St Francis Church Hall, 110 Warwick Road, Kenilworth CV8 1HL.

Talks are free for WGCG members.
Non-member visitors and guests are welcome and pay £2.00 per talk.
Free for those in full-time education.

    What to expect: Talk: “Geological Time and the Anthropocene.” by Ian Fairchild. There is little doubt that mankind's impact on the natural environment has increased dramatically in recent decades but ... ... are we now living in a new epoch of geological time: the Anthropocene? Concepts from Earth System Science agree with stratigraphic markers that we went outside the range of conditions of the Holocene in the last 70 years, but does the term Anthropocene belong to geologists anyway? Ian Fairchild is Emeritus Professor, University of Birmingham and Chair, Herefordshire and Worcestershire Earth Heritage Trust

  • Mar 2020 – Nottingham Caves Visit

    When: 29th Mar 2020.
    Where: City of Caves, Nottingham

    What to expect: A WGCG members' tour, led by Tony Waltham author of 'Sandstone Caves of Nottingham'.  The city of Nottingham has hundreds of man-made caves, which have been in use for over a thousand years. Carved out of the Triassic sandstone they have been used over the years as a tannery, public house cellars and as an air raid shelter. The caves are listed as a scheduled monument by Historic England. Registration: WGCG members to await formal circulation of a registration form from the Membership & Admin Assistant and then register well in advance. Our visit has to be limited to twenty WGCG members. More details later for the 20 registered attending WGCG members.
